Study Abroad

Studying abroad changes everyday life as well as education. This section focuses on destinations, accommodation, departure and settling in, so students and families can agree on a practical plan.

Set priorities before choosing a country

Separate non-negotiables—your subject, annual budget, distance from home and support needs—from preferences such as city size, climate and campus setting. A friend’s choice may not suit you.

Compare schools in the UK, US, Australia and Canada against the same criteria.

Accommodation shapes daily life

Check travel time, meals, holiday arrangements, house rules and problem-solving contacts for each option. Younger students need clear care and family communication arrangements. Older students can practise budgeting, laundry, cooking and time management before leaving.

Agree who will do what

  • Students: keep admission information, check school emails and complete pre-arrival tasks.
  • Parents: confirm payments, emergency contacts and practical support.
  • Together: check housing, transfers, insurance, required documents and packing.

Put important dates in a shared calendar and verify entry arrangements against official destination guidance.

Plan for the first month

Agree how often to contact home, locate academic and student support services, and allow time to settle in. Ask for help early if lessons, housing or adjustment become difficult.

Still comparing destinations? Book an ISSCC consultation to start with your subject interests, budget and daily needs.
