Canada Study Guide

Planning to study in Canada involves more than choosing a city or comparing rankings. Start with your stage of education, then build a realistic shortlist and annual budget.

Choose the qualification you want to work towards

For secondary school, clarify grade placement, credit transfer and graduation requirements. For further study, compare course content, the qualification awarded and progression opportunities. A college or university label alone does not tell you whether a programme is suitable.

Build a shortlist you can compare

Choose three to five institutions from our Canada directory. Record the programme, required subjects, English requirements, duration and intake for each. Turn missing information into questions for the institution.

Budget for a full year

Include tuition, housing, meals, insurance, transport, materials and flights, with room for unexpected expenses. Ask whether boarding fees include holiday accommodation, transfers and activities. Think about the journey to school and everyday living arrangements as well as costs.

What to bring to a consultation

  • Your latest two years of school reports and current curriculum.
  • Your preferred intake, subject interests and longer-term goals.
  • A realistic annual budget.
  • Accommodation preferences and support needs.
