Millfield Prep is set in 160 acres of grounds and has a 25m swimming pool, recently refurbished music department and recital hall, art spaces, design and technology centre, five science laboratories, a golf course, equestrian centre and a shooting range. Around our three boys boarding houses and two girls boarding houses, there is plenty of outdoor space for building camps, and we have an assault course, climbing wall, tree trail and tennis courts.
Millfield is set in 200 acres and features a 50m Olympic sized swimming pool, golf course, equestrian centre with stabling for 90 horses, indoor cricket and golf centres, fencing salle, a wonderful concert hall, 450 seat theatre, art gallery and a world class music centre, spacious dining room and cutting edge science facilities. The school has 18 boarding houses and five day houses, including four specialist Year 9 only houses.
Millfield is a name that is synonymous with sport. From the novice to Olympian and professional sportsperson, we believe exercise and activity is essential to the wellbeing of our students. Lessons learnt in the classroom transfer to the sports field and lessons learnt on the sports field transfer to the classroom. Our expert sports coaches, experience and knowledge and our outstanding facilities provide the perfect development environment for every potential athlete. Our representation at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games evidences the unique environment athletes access at Millfield, which helps set them on their path to success.
Class sizes are typically between 10-16 at Millfield Prep and 8-12 at Millfield, optimised for personal attention, so we really get to know each child, and for social interactions. This enables us to stretch the most able and support those who need an extra helping hand.
The results of our top 100 students for GCSE and A level, which is a number comparable with the size of other schools, compares extremely well with highly selective schools. 60+ students gain scholarships in academics and sport, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, to US universities. This is a pathway that is growing in popularity at Millfield. Every year we have students gaining places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities, as well as many going on to the Russell Group Universities. Students also gain highly sought after places at universities to study subjects such as medicine, dentistry and veterinary.
Whether boarding or day, all children benefit from the warm, positive atmosphere of their house. This environment helps to create such a strong community spirit throughout the school. Health, wellbeing and safety is at the heart of everything we do and safeguarding the children in our care is our number one priority.
Our Learning Support Centres offer specialist support to children with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. We view dyslexic thinking as a super power that gives students a different perspective on problem solving and creativity and work closely with the charity Made By Dyslexia, the founder being an OM and Governor. Our Learning Support Centres pride themselves on creating environments where children thrive and are equipped with strategies to become independent learners.

The Sixth Form is a dynamic and exciting time of change for young people. At Millfield, we help our students make the most of the many opportunities on offer during these final two years before higher education, travel or work.
Nearly half our Sixth Form are new students from around the globe. This truly international community is an important feature of Millfield, allowing students to experience cultural diversity, learn from each other and forge lifelong friendships.
We tailor learning to each individual’s needs and our Sixth Form team is always on hand to provide advice and support, both before students join Millfield and throughout their time with us. We offer an extensive range and breadth of courses and combinations in A level, Pre-U, BTEC/Level 3 and the Extended Project Qualification. Sixth Formers are supported in developing essential skills for independent study. These are consolidated by support lessons and workshops that develop independent study skills alongside exam preparation. We also welcome over 60 visiting lecturers each year, have developed the unique Brilliance Curriculum which connects concepts in different subjects together to aid understanding and host Brilliance Breakfasts. Participation in academic competitions and Olympiads is also encouraged. Our Lower Sixth study skills and research project, enhanced by our diverse debating programme prepares students for Upper Sixth study and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). We aim to develop skills in students beyond those needed simply for exam success.
Students can choose from a vast range of sports and after-school activities, alongside further co-curriculum opportunities within Drama, Music and Dance. Our unique Millfield Brilliance Award programme (MBA) offers an abundance of opportunities to develop leadership skills.
We offer excellent mentoring and support to help students consider which careers might be for them and extensive support with higher education pathways. We also offer preparation for SAT exams, for which we are an exam centre, and applications for US universities, which are becoming increasingly popular.
