King’s Ely is a day and boarding school, with international families relocating to the UK and seeking day spaces for children of all ages from 2 to 18, as well as those who are sending their child to board with us from the age of 11. We are academically selective, but not elitist. We assess children to ensure that they can cope with the academic rigour of GCSE and A Level courses, and that their language skills and attitude will enable them to take full advantage of being in a British school alongside British students. Approximately 80% of our pupils are British.
At King’s Ely Junior we offer day and boarding tailor-made experiences for those joining the school with English as a second language. Benefiting from all of the enriching opportunities and facilities on offer at a prestigious independent school, set in the safe and tranquil city of Ely, close to Cambridge and within easy reach of all the international airports, these young students are fully integrated into life at King’s Ely Junior and receive intensive, specialist English language tuition alongside a broad and ambitious wider curriculum.
English language lessons will be taught to groups of no more than five students and there will be specialist teaching in Maths, Science, Languages, Art, Music, Drama, Computing, Design Technology, not to mention extensive opportunities to enjoy traditional team sports, plays, concerts and the wide range of co-curricular activities on offer.
At King’s Ely, we are immensely proud of our international heritage and the outstanding achievements of our overseas pupils. As one of the first UK independent schools to offer the IGCSE qualification, we continue to tailor our programmes to match the needs of each learner. We also develop the Learning Habits Framework.
Our pupils live, study and learn alongside British students wherever possible. They always receive support in small, mixed-nationality groups and all our programmes focus on supporting our pupils to improve their English and target exam success.
As an integral part of the King’s Ely school community, our pupils have full access to all co-curricular options. Participating alongside their British peers, they take an active part in all sporting, musical, artistic and outdoor programmes.
Applying to university can be a daunting prospect. From choosing the best course to completing a personal statement, King’s Ely students receive specific guidance, advice and support. From our Sixth Form, students go on to study at prestigious institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and the Russell Group,as well as universities in the USA, Europe and Asia.
