Boarding with us is wonderful preparation for what you will encounter in life after school. We recognise the significance of independence and provide a structured yet flexible environment that encourages self-reliance and personal responsibility; all under the nurturing guidance of our friendly staff.

Boarding Options

Prep School

7-13 YEARS

Our Prep School boarders live in Grimwade House; a mixed boarding house for boys and girls aged 7 to 13 years.

Senior School

13 – 18 YEARS

There are four Senior School boarding houses. Two for boys; Robert Pearce House and Rowe House and two for girls; Trotman House and Young House.

Day and Boarding Profile

At Bishop’s Stortford College, we have a natural blend of day pupils, full boarders, weekly boarders, and flexi-boarders (those who board a few nights a week). We aim to be as flexible as possible within our available capacity. Our starting point is what would work best for you, your child, and your family.

Approximately 195 of our pupils board, around 35 in the Prep School (most boarding from the age of seven years) and 160 in the Senior School.

Given the diversity within our school, there is huge scope for bringing different people of different ages together. Our pupils learn from each other and enjoy each other’s company.

Where Our Pupils Live

Day pupils come from a relatively wide area, stretching towards Stevenage to the west and the coast to the east, Cambridge to the north, and Epping to the south.

The majority of our UK boarders come from Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, and London. We typically have between 100 international boarders with us each year of which the majority are in our Senior School. We have a number who join our Prep School, usually from the age of seven. In the past few years, pupils have joined us from many different countries. These include China (mainland and Hong Kong), Italy, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Korea, Latvia, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Ukraine, and UAE.
