Set on a beautiful 80 acre campus, the impressive Victorian buildings complement the recent additions, which are very well equipped and resourced. St Luke's Chapel stands at the very heart of the thriving community of over 720 students. Two current M4 (Year 9) students outline their reasons for choosing Epsom College in the accompanying video. Academic: For over 150 years, Epsom has consistently delivered a first class education and that continues today within a modern and enlightened community, where passion and commitment work side by side to inspire and enrich. With its medical heritage, the College has a worldwide reputation for excellence in the sciences and that reputation now extends to all areas of its broad academic curriculum. Everyone at Epsom is encouraged to achieve their maximum potential. For the last five years Epsom has consistently achieved high value added scores at both GCSE and A Level. Value added is a measure of the outcomes achieved in relation to the baselines on entry. It is a measure of the positive input that Epsom College makes to each individual boy and girl. Pastoral: The close-knit House System is an integral part of College life. All of the Houses have a Housemaster or Housemistress, together with their family, living alongside students, creating a family environment. This helps to ensure that pupils get the guidance and support they need to achieve their potential in a happy and encouraging community. Ably supported by an experienced team of Tutors, Housemasters and Mistresses are responsible for all aspects of a student's welfare and progress at Epsom, whether it be academic, extracurricular, social or personal. Extra Curricular: Something for everyone' would best sum up the College's unrivalled extra curricular programme. Outstanding facilities, coupled with dedicated, experienced teachers, provide students with a wealth of opportunities to discover new interests and excel in areas in which they have talent. Aside from the 25 plus sports available on a regular basis, pupils can also get involved in music, art, drama, design technology and textiles, as well as a range of academic societies, debating, community and voluntary work. The College also has one of the largest Combined Cadet Forces (CCF) in the country, providing an opportunity for pupils to work towards their bronze, silver or gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Location: Epsom has a unique location, nestling in the heart of the Epsom Downs, home of the famous Derby, yet only 10 minutes walk from Epsom Town Centre. Epsom College welcomes applications from International Students for entry to years 9, 10 and 12. Epsom has a long tradition of educating boys and girls from overseas and currently some 10 per cent of its students come from outside the UK. Pupils from Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Germany, Russia, Portugal, Korea, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic have all studied successfully at the College. Epsom College offers first class provision for those pupils for whom English is an Additional Language. The five fully-qualified specialist teachers ensure that every pupil reaches the highest level of proficiency in all four language components: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The pupils follow the full curriculum including GCSE English Language and Literature with IGCSE English as an Additional Language as an option. In the 6th form, pupils are prepared for IELTS with TOEFL and SAT as options. The expectation is that all pupils will reach an advanced level of English, which will qualify them for acceptance in their chosen subject, by any university in the United Kingdom, (including Oxbridge), the USA and worldwide. Pupils are taught by a highly experienced team of teachers both in small groups in timetabled periods and in one-to-one tutorials. Students are welcomed into one of the College's seven Boarding Houses, where they enjoy a good social and ethnic mix. They also have their own Boarding Coordinator to care for all their pastoral needs. Each Boarding House at Epsom has its own representative who attends meetings and puts forward ideas for entertainment or outside visits and trips on behalf of the international students. The House representative is also able to discuss any problems or specific issues that may arise. On Saturday evenings during term time, the students can get together for social events and there are many opportunities to take part in activities and celebrations from their own culture, such as the Chinese Moon (Harvest) festival, the Oktoberfest and the Chinese New Year. This is complemented by a range of organised Sunday activities and trips. Worship is at the centre of College life and spiritual awareness is encouraged as part of a student's development. A Muslim Imam and a Hindu Priest assist in the multi-faith approach at the College. Epsom's extensive catering facilities allow for a varied diet and a number of cultural tastes are catered for. The College is favoured with excellent road and rail connections, with Gatwick and Heathrow airports less than an hour away. Junctions 8 and 9 of the M25 are accessed easily in less than 15 minutes and central London is only 40 minutes by train.
