Other Information: Founded in 1868, Bishop’s Stortford College has grown to be one of the country's leading co-educational, all through, day and boarding schools for 4 to 18 year olds. It nestles amongst trees on the edge of the market town of Bishop's Stortford, close to the Hertfordshire and Essex border. Friendly and ambitious, without being pretentious, it is a place that nurtures impressive enthusiasts with a love of learning; independent thinkers with the confidence to succeed and the courage to take risks; interesting people with a heart for others and a desire to make a difference. We are large enough to provide an exceptional range of opportunities, yet small enough for individuals to be known and valued. In our family of three schools, each part has its own distinctive character, shares a common ethos and provides a wonderful continuity, without losing the excitement of moving to the next stage. Bishop's Stortford College has welcomed students from around the world for many years. Our aim is to ensure that all our international students are well integrated and have a real sense of belonging. We have around 60 international students with us each year from a wide range of countries. The majority of these are in the Senior School which caters for 13-18 year olds. They represent between 10-12% of all Senior School pupils. We, also, have a number who join our Junior School, usually from the age of 10 or 11. Bishop's Stortford College is one of the top performing co-educational boarding schools in the UK. Our pupils, including those from overseas, reach excellent standards in public examinations and move on to a range of top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. As one of the UK’s top co-educational, all through, day and boarding schools, with a flexible approach to boarding, we can cater for boys and girls of different ages within the family and the individual needs of different families. As three schools in one, we are large enough to provide an exceptional range of opportunities, whilst each part is small enough for pupils to be known, valued and nurtured as an individual. You can be confident that your child will benefit from the same ethos, values and high standards, at whatever stage he or she joins us. The shape of our school week, the fact that we are a blend of full and weekly boarders, flexi-boarders and day pupils, the quality and enthusiasm of the teaching staff and the interaction between pupils of different ages mean that breadth of experience is naturally woven into daily life. Our pupils can, and do, pursue high academic standards whilst enjoying, and succeeding in, many other interests. The degree to which we are able to provide such breadth for our pupils is so much greater than many schools. An innovative, interactive science centre, the use of pioneering technology in geography, the hugely successful Festival of Literature, numerous high quality musical and drama events and frequent high level sporting success are just a few examples of how we constantly strive for excellence in all we do. We are blessed with a beautifully peaceful, spacious and safe setting, close to the countryside yet within walking distance of the centre of a market town. There is easy access by air, road or rail and full advantage is taken of our close proximity to London and Cambridge. Many of our parents make substantial sacrifices to enable their children to be with us and we have worked hard over the years to manage our finances carefully so that we are able to provide as much as possible within the termly fee and keep annual increases to a minimum. At the heart of the value we offer are people. It is the infectious enthusiasm, imagination and dedication of College staff, which, in partnership with parents, enables our pupils to grow into well-rounded, skilful, caring and confident young people, equipped and ready for the adventures and opportunities life has to offer.
