Other Information: The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) is a dynamic, cosmopolitan university situated in Australia's global city of Sydney. As a member of the Australian Technology Network (ATN), an influential alliance of five distinctive and prominent Australian universities, UTS is committed to forging partnerships with industry and government to deliver practical results through focused research.
UTS provides high-quality, career-relevant education through innovative courses, excellent teaching and state-of the art facilities. In 2011 UTS was awarded five stars (the highest possible rating) in the new QS Stars™ system, which recognises excellence in higher education.
Along with strong international ties with more than 170 universities in 31 countries, UTS has a multicultural mix of international students from more than 115 countries. We encourage our students to broaden their horizons by undertaking a global exchange, and UTS researchers regularly collaborate with colleagues around the world.
Our academics are regularly awarded for their excellence. In 2010, six UTS teaching staff received Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council.
Leading industry professionals help develop and review UTS courses to provide a balance between theory and practical application. Our courses include major projects, real-life case studies, extensive group work and field-trips which help students place their knowledge in a real-world context. As a result, UTS graduates are already familiar with their future workplaces and experienced in applying their technical knowledge to real-world problems. Professional placement and work-experience subjects equip students with valuable practical skills and the beginnings of a professional resume, distinguishing UTS students from their peers.
Innovative and recognised courses
UTS fosters innovation and academic excellence across a diverse range of both traditional and emerging areas of study. Our courses are continually updated to reflect relevant developments in research, technology and industry, putting UTS students at the forefront of professional knowledge for their study area.
Many of our courses in Business, Architecture and Building, Engineering, IT and Science have accreditation with a wide range of professional associations and governing bodies, giving our students the capacity to work internationally. For example, students graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering from UTS are eligible for graduate membership of Engineers Australia, which means their degree will be recognised by all countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord (currently Canada, the US, the UK and Ireland, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa).
Diverse range of courses
UTS offers over 100 undergraduate and 150 postgraduate courses across traditional and emerging areas of study in:
Design, Architecture and Building
Nursing, Midwifery and Health
'Practical Innovation' is how we describe our approach to research. At UTS, we strive to develop pioneering research solutions which have a real impact on communities both at home and abroad. Our recent Strategic Plan Investment Plan allocated an additional A$70million over six years to enhance our research capabilities.
We've developed a reputation for research in emerging fields, and have 28 established research strengths covering Creative and Civil Societies, Health Futures, Sustainability and the Built Environment, Communication and Intelligent Systems, Business Innovation and Future Services and Industries.
UTS has a wide range of technologically advanced facilities catering for your academic, social and sporting life at university. Our lecture theatres are equipped with multimedia projection facilities. The university library is one of the most technologically capable libraries in the southern hemisphere. We have advanced remote access computer networks and wireless internet access, as well as 24-hour access to computer labs.
Our recently-renovated science building has one of the largest concentrations of advanced analytical equipment outside industry in spacious, well-appointed laboratories. We have remotely accessible engineering and software labs and the facilities available for our media production and design students are state-of-the-art. New photo media and editing facilities have recently been installed and our audio labs will continue to expand over the next three years. Our nursing and midwifery labs are equipped for higher fidelity simulation of a range of clinical scenarios.
Active campus life
To thrive at university, it's important to enjoy life beyond the classroom. Making new friends and pursuing new interests are some of the most rewarding experiences university has to offer. And when it comes to graduate employment, many companies will consider your extracurricular involvement as well as your academic achievements.
Campus life at UTS includes student 'buddy' programs, more than 100 clubs and societies, social events on and off campus, including a sport and recreation program and an annual festival celebrating the cultural diversity at UTS.
UTS provides comprehensive support for international students - from our dedicated UTS International staff to English language assistance and the enthusiastic Peer Network student volunteers.
Many of the staff working at UTS International are from diverse cultural backgrounds or have lived abroad, so we understand the stress involved in moving to a new country and studying at a new University. We will provide the information and assistance you need for a smooth transition to study at UTS and living in Sydney.
