Founded in 1842, we continue to build on our proud tradition of educational excellence and community service. Pickering College offers students a variety of enriched academic programs, athletic activities, and leadership opportunities within a caring and respectful school community.
Inspired by our mission to be a leader in education, our programs stimulate our students to meet high standards for lifelong growth and learning. Enhanced by the use of laptops and leading-edge educational technology, our programs offer unique opportunities in the areas of academics, arts, media arts, athletics, leadership development and community service. Pickering College and our students are regularly recognized for outstanding performance.
Pickering offers a personalized and progressive learning environment with a faculty dedicated to preparing students for the challenges of the future. Our school values focus on instilling within each student the vision, courage and skills to make their community greater, better and more beautiful than they discovered it. As our Guiding Principles state, we also believe in a balanced approach that emphasizes intellectual endeavours, critical thinking, creative expression, spiritual development, wellness, social justice, leadership and environmental consciousness.
At Pickering College, our faculty is concerned with the growth of the individual. We believe in cultivating strong interpersonal relationships between students, parents and staff who live, learn, create and play together in a secure and nurturing environment. At the same time, we work hard to ensure high standards for academics, and to provide a challenging and enriched curriculum built on a foundation of core knowledge using the most up-to-date technology.
We offer a dynamic, nurturing and positive environment where each child's curiosity is meaningful and focused.
A low teacher-student ratio and small class sizes help ensure our programs are "student-centred" with one-on-one learning opportunities to meet individual needs.
Pickering College follows the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum and undergoes bi-annual inspection by the Ministry of Education. We also receive CESI accreditation through a review process every seven years.
Pickering College works to ensure our boarding students, especially those adjusting to a new culture and climate, find a “home away from home”. Starting in Grade 7, students can enjoy a safe, supportive and healthy learning environment living directly on campus. From trips, to group activities, to the “circle of care” that supports the academic and emotional well-being of students; various ongoing Pickering College initiatives help make living away from home a positive and enriching experience. Each student is a member of a “residence family” and forms lifelong friendships with boarders from across Canada and around the world. Residence life also provides faculty-supervised study periods, family-style meals, housekeeping services, frequent outings, and a wide range of competitive and recreational activities.
