Other Information: Established in 1922, Vancouver College is the only all boys, independent Catholic school in British Columbia. Vancouver College is served by the Congregation of Christian Brothers and held in trust and operated by Vancouver College Limited. As a faith and learning community, our mission is to educate boys and young men from diverse backgrounds in the tradition of Blessed Edmund Rice. At the core of Vancouver College is a community of Christian Brothers and dedicated lay educators motivated by a spirit of faith and zeal. The Elementary School at Vancouver College fosters a love of learning for the students. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 are introduced to a variety of teaching styles from grade to grade, while their lessons are still rooted in strong traditional teaching values. The boys are given clear expectations for behaviour and for work expectations. The Elementary years begin the road to learning and it is imperative that parents/guardians and the school work closely in order to promote the growth and development of the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and social attributes of each individual. Vancouver College holds close the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brother Education, and it is these elements that are entwined in the elementary education of the boys. The Middle School, comprising of students in Grades 7 – 9, takes into consideration that the jump from Elementary to High School is the biggest adjustment a young boy must make during his High School years. With this in mind, Middle School staff work very hard at nurturing and caring for your sons. By working in partnership with the parents, it is our hope that we can assist your sons in making their journey through adolescence and Middle School a smoother one. The Senior School at Vancouver College consists of approximately 480 young men in grades 10-12. As students enter Senior School, the most noticeable difference is the increased focus on independence and responsibility. Upon graduation each student is expected to "leave here a better man." Academically, each Senior School student will study a minimum of eight courses each year, providing him with the opportunity to meet and exceed Ministry of Education graduation requirements as well as university admission requirements. Although the major focus in the Senior School is on academic rigor, there is a variety of support available through our Learning Assistance and Student Services Departments so that all students may achieve success.
