Other Information: Abbotsford School District is home to 46 modern, well-equipped, well-maintained schools. We are pleased to offer a wide range of educational programs, choices, services, facilities and support to help every student achieve success. Select from the list below to access individual school profiles. These programs provide high school students the chance to complete 1st year university-level coursework while still in high school. Students take courses that are recognized by many universities for entrance requirements and extra credits. Also: leadership and global citizenship experiences. Advanced Placement – offered at Yale, Rick Hansen and Abbotsford Traditional schools. International Baccalaureate (IB) – offered at Abbotsford Collegiate The Abbotsford School District is governed by an elected seven-person Board of Education. Board members sit on a number of school district and community committees and act as liaisons to specific schools in the system. Abbotsford School District services a wide and dispersed audience within the city of Abbotsford (pop. 134,000). The District’s 46 schools are attended by almost 18,500 full and part time students at 30 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, one combined middle-secondary school, and seven secondary schools. In addition, the District has a virtual school, an Aboriginal education centre, an International student program, and offers continuing education courses and an annual summer school. Besides being one of the fastest growing communities in BC and Canada, Abbotsford is also the third most ethnically and culturally diverse community in Canada. As the largest employer in the city, the Abbotsford School District employs approximately 2,100 full and part time teaching and support staff who are committed to providing learners of all ages and abilities with a range of choices and the best possible educational support.
