Other Information: Bishop Garcia Diego High School is an independent Catholic co-educational secondary school that welcomes students of all faiths and provides them with the spiritual, personal, and intellectual knowledge to meet the enduring challenge of realizing their God-given potential in a multi-cultural society. Bishop Garcia Diego High School provides a rigorous college preparatory program for young men and women in grades 9th-12th. Founded as Santa Barbara Catholic High School in 1940, the school relocated in 1959 and was renamed in honor of Francisco Garcia Diego y Moreno, the first bishop of California. The school is independently operated and is governed by a Board of Trustees. The school serves the diverse community of Santa Barbara County (population 400,000) and is located near downtown Santa Barbara, with access to many cultural, educational and recreational activities. The student population is 287; the class of 2012 is 67 students. Bishop Garcia Diego adheres to the time honored Catholic Tradition of educating the whole individual by providing a solid four-year college preparatory curriculum while stressing the importance of faith and services to others.
