Small class size, a talented and nurturing faculty, and challenging academics characterize the traditional college preparatory curriculum. St. Anne’s-Belfield School serves boys and girls in grades Pre-School through Grade 12. Five-day and seven-day boarding options are available in Grades 9-12. A weekly chapel service, a competitive sports program, and a fine and performing arts program complement the academic experience.
Candidates for admission to the school and to the ESL program must demonstrate at least an intermediate level of English proficiency on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). We offer two different levels of ESL: high-intermediate (ESL 3) and advanced (ESL 4). No additional fees are charged for our ESL students.
Our curriculum outlines the many steps of the educational journey of our school. At each level, we try to introduce appropriate material in logical sequence. We prepare the way of our youngest students by first defining and describing the destination of our oldest.
Our program models our belief that children of different ages are capable of traveling different distances and that children of the same age often need to choose their own pace. We will continue to adjust the pace and the scope of our curriculum to ensure a program, excellent and exhilarating, for these young people whom we teach and with whom we learn.
n agreement with our philosophy that both a breadth and depth of knowledge are essential characteristics of a college preparatory education, all students are encouraged to attain excellence in a variety of disciplines. As part of our core graduation requirements, students must complete our rigorous and unique series of mathematics and science courses. Our most advanced students have easy access to collegiate-level courses at the University of Virginia, and many of our students choose to enroll in these classes to pursue their various academic passions. All students are required to take five academic courses each trimester, but a significant number elect to carry six or seven, including a diverse array of honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. An English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is offered for those students with at least an intermediate level of English proficiency.
