St. Johnsbury Academy offers a rigorous, wide-ranging, 221-course, standards-based curriculum designed to meet the needs and interests of a wide range of abilities, career goals, and interests.
The Academy also believes students learn best when required material is presented in a form and degree of difficulty that matches their individual learning styles and abilities. In nearly all of our academic departments, students are placed in instructional sections with similar abilities and potential as identified by previous classroom performance. All academic departments offer courses at three levels: basic, standard and accelerated. We also offer 21 Advanced Placement courses, more than any other Vermont high school and ranking in the top 20 nationally.
As you research our course guide, you will find an extraordinary array of academic, artistic, technical, athletic, social and community service opportunities. While the Academy's collection of nearly 220 courses, 40 athletic teams and 60 organized clubs and activities provides a full range of opportunities, there is a clearly defined core academic curriculum required of every St. Johnsbury Academy student.
Our core curriculum, offered at as many as four different levels of difficulty (including 21 Advanced Placement courses), guarantees that you enjoy a broad and deep academic program.
Our elective program includes more than 30 courses in the fine and performing arts; 16 technical, engineering (STeM), pre-professional, and computer science programs; five foreign languages; and a variety of other courses for personal fulfillment and academic enrichment.
