Other Information: West Vancouver is a residential waterfront community with Lions Gate Bridge marking the entrance, the mountains to the north, Capilano River to the east, with Howe Sound and Burrard Inlet to the west and south. The steep terrain and rugged shoreline, with numerous creeks and watercourses, complemented by breathtaking views, provide a spectacular setting that is renowned worldwide, making West Vancouver one of the most desirable residential communities in all of Canada. West Vancouver School District's International Student Program is offered to students from grades 1 through 12. There are three West Vancouver High Schools: Sentinel Secondary, Rockridge Secondary and West Vancouver Secondary. High school students will be placed in one of our three exceptionally good schools. In addition there are 14 elementary schools which accept students for full year or short term programs. All schools in West Vancouver are co-educational. West Vancouver schools have long established traditions and a consistent record of excellence in academics, fine arts and athletics. There are classrooms devoted to specialty subjects such as technical education, computers and sciences. The schools are committed to learning. The British Columbia academic curricula are taught by dedicated teachers who not only prepare students very well for provincial examinations and post-secondary studies but also provide for the needs of the individual students. The International Student Program allows overseas students to enter West Vancouver schools by paying fees to cover the cost of their education. It gives overseas students the opportunity to study alongside Canadian students in the public education system. By integrating International Students into the education system we hope that students will interact and learn from each other. This will ultimately increase multicultural understanding and strengthen ties between countries. This program offers a wide range of courses in academic, technical, and business fields at different levels of difficulty. Many International Students who come to West Vancouver are planning to complete their secondary school education with a view to entering a Canadian university or college. Our International Program Development office offers customized short term programs to meet the unique needs of students, teachers and administrators or other education groups. Ranging in duration from a few days to five months, customized programs can take place at any time of the year. We look forward to working with you to address your specific requirements and ensure a rewarding experience in one of the top-rated school districts in Canada. Short term programs can include a few hours of English language training by our certified teachers plus an activity five days of the week. This program can take place any time of the year provided we have a minimum group number of 15 students. Short term programs can also include full integration into the regular Canadian classroom in one of our schools. This program is accessible to individual students through the short term application process. Studentsˇ¦ documentation will be reviewed and acceptance granted provided there is room in school district classrooms and the student is suitable to attend the regular program.
